Each of the 8 operators can independently run any synthesis mode. Mix FM with Wavetable, filter noise through a waveshaper, drive a physical wind instrument with a noise modulator - the combinations are endless.
Classic frequency modulation with sine oscillators. From glassy electric pianos to harsh metallic textures. The foundation of the DX legacy, reimagined.
36 bandlimited waveforms including 12 instrument-specific shapes (Brass, Strings, Clarinet, Cello, E-Piano Tine, Vocal, Supersaw...) with smooth morphing. Import your own wavetables too.
Filtered noise generator with white, pink, and colored noise types. Essential for percussive attacks, breath textures, and atmospheric layers.
State-variable filter with lowpass, highpass, bandpass, and notch modes. Keyboard tracking and resonance for classic subtractive tones.
Nonlinear distortion with multiple shaping curves. Add harmonics, warmth, or destruction to any signal passing through.
Multiply incoming audio with a local oscillator for inharmonic, bell-like tones and aggressive metallic textures.
Karplus-Strong waveguide with 8 sub-types: Plucked, Steel, Nylon, Piano, Bowed, Sitar, Clavinet, Dulcimer. STK-based bow friction model and fractional-delay tuning for realistic stringed instruments.
8 parallel bandpass resonators tuned to measured mode ratios for 8 sub-types: Marimba, Vibraphone, Tubular Bell, Glockenspiel, Wood Block, Drum, Glass, Metal. Pure mallet/bell physics.
STK-derived self-exciting waveguide with 8 sub-types: Clarinet, Flute, Trumpet, Saxophone, Oboe, Organ, Didgeridoo, Pan Flute. Each instrument has its own breath formula, reed/jet/lip excitation, and per-sub-type envelope shape that auto-updates as you change waveform.
The Wind engine is a port of the Stanford CCRMA STK waveguide models (Perry Cook & Gary Scavone) directly into FAAS Hybrid. Spectrally validated against STK reference output.
Single-delay closed-pipe waveguide with reed table nonlinearity. Spectrally matches STK Clarinet within 1.6 dB across 16 harmonics. Velocity-scaled output and built-in vibrato per STK defaults.
Jet excitation with cubic nonlinearity, OnePole bore filter, DC blocker, and the classic "overblow" trick (delay tuned for the third mode). Spectrally matches STK Flute within 6.7 dB.
Dual-delay conical bore approximation with the reed sitting at the blow position. The output is the pressure at the reed, not the bell, just like STK Saxofony. Spectrally matches within 6.4 dB.
STK Brass exact in the 400-1500 Hz sweet spot: allpass interpolating delay, BiQuad lip filter (radius 0.997), DC blocker. An internal CC2 LipTension sweep simulates the continuous breath controller STK Brass needs to self-oscillate. Outside the sweet spot a clarinet-style reed proxy keeps the instrument audible at every MIDI note.
Reed (oboe), jet (pan flute, organ pipe) variants with their own bore length, breath formula, and timbre. Real organ pipes are flue/jet instruments, so the Organ engine uses the Flute model with a softer breath profile.
Wind algorithms ship with a default expression mapping: Pitch Bend → pitch, Breath (CC2) → amplitude AND embouchure, Mod Wheel → vibrato. Plug a breath controller into your DAW and play with natural lip articulation right out of the box.
Don't just pick an algorithm - build your own. FAAS Hybrid features a fully programmable routing editor where you wire operators freely, creating signal paths no preset could anticipate.
Drag and connect 8 operators in any configuration. Route FM into a filter, feed a waveshaper into a ring modulator, drive a wind waveguide with noise, stack a string through a wavetable. 122 presets (88 FM + 22 hybrid + 12 physical modeling) plus unlimited custom routings.
Morph between complex wavetable shapes in real-time with a live 3D visualization that breathes with the sound. Assign morphing to any mod source - velocity, aftertouch, mod wheel, LFO, sequencer lanes, or even noise - and watch the waveform transform as you play.
16 mod matrix slots connect any source to any destination. Map the sequencer to filter cutoff, aftertouch to waveform position, velocity to operator level. Chain modulations for evolving, organic textures that never repeat.
Every feature is built for deep sound exploration, from quick tweaks to complex multi-timbral performances.
Classic multi-stage envelopes on every operator with keyboard scaling for velocity-sensitive, expressive patches.
16-step sequencer with Pitch, Velocity, Gate, Duration lanes plus 2 assignable modulation lanes. Swing, randomize, and save per preset.
Smoothly morph between operator states in real-time. Assign to mod wheel, aftertouch, or sequencer for hands-on timbral control.
4 independent Parts with split/layer zones. Build complex multi-timbral setups with dedicated volume, pan, and note range per Part.
Per-patch Reverb, Chorus, Tremolo, Stereo Delay with flexible serial/parallel routing. Plus analog tube saturation with 10 valve models (12AX7, EL34, 300B...).
AI-assisted sound creation: pick a category, the wizard loads optimized recipes with the right algorithm, waveforms, and envelopes. Tweak with 12 smart macros, audition with built-in phrases, auto-optimize with genetic algorithm.
With ~3400 parameters, FAAS Hybrid could be overwhelming. The Sound Wizard changes that. It's not just a preset browser - it's an intelligent sound design assistant.
Keys, Pads, Bass, Lead, Bell/Mallet, Organ, Percussion, FX, Sequence. Each with 4 variations using purpose-built algorithms and real instrument waveforms.
Attack, Sustain, Release, Brightness, Warmth, Complexity, Velocity, Feedback, Key Tracking, Vibrato, Speed, Chorus. Strategy-aware: each macro knows whether your sound is FM, subtractive, or hybrid.
A lightweight AI auto-optimizes every recipe after selection. Click "Optimize" for a deeper search. The algorithm evolves your sound toward the ideal spectral profile through natural selection.
Test your sound instantly with Note, Chord, and Arpeggio phrases - no keyboard needed. Phrases adapt to the sound category: bass patterns for bass, chord progressions for pads.
See exactly what's happening: colored operator boxes show the signal flow (oscillator -> filter -> output). Click any operator to change its waveform from 36 options including Brass, Strings, Cello, Flute.
Morph between 4 sub-categories on an XY pad, or blend any two recipes with Cross Morph. Discover sounds at the intersection of categories you'd never think to combine.
A complete tube amplifier modeled with academic precision. Two-stage cascading (preamp + power amp), 10 valve types, output transformer saturation, power supply sag, negative feedback loop - and ADAA anti-aliasing for artifact-free harmonics. Based on Pakarinen & Yeh (DAFx 2009) and Stanford CCRMA research.
One-click amp configurations: Fender Twin (clean sparkle), Marshall JCM800 (British crunch), Vox AC30 (chimey breakup), Fender Champ (bluesy sag), Hi-Fi 300B (liquid audiophile), McIntosh (tight hi-fi) and more. Each sets preamp tube, power tube, feedback and drive in one click.
Separate preamp and power amp tube selection - mix and match any combination. 12AX7 into EL34 for Marshall crunch. 6SN7 into 300B for audiophile warmth. Each stage uses ADAA (Antiderivative Anti-Aliasing) with triode or pentode transfer functions. Optional 2x HQ oversampling for pristine high-drive sounds.
Negative Feedback - Fender-clean (high NFB) to Marshall-raw (low NFB).
Power Supply Sag - B+ voltage drops under heavy signal, creating the "breathing" compression of vintage amps.
Output Transformer - Symmetric saturation with LF resonance, calibrated per tube type.
Bias Shift - Per-stage cathode cap compression for natural dynamics.
10 valve models: 12AX7, 12AT7, 12AU7, 6L6, EL34, EL84, 6V6, KT88, 300B, 6SN7. Positioned post-mix, pre-effects - just like a real tube preamp. A visual vacuum tube glows as you turn up the drive.
Stack up to 4 independent synthesis layers per patch, each with its own algorithm, operators, and modulation. Copy, swap, and manage layers with a single right-click.
Right-click any layer to copy its sound to another layer or to a clipboard for later pasting. Only sound parameters are copied - volume, note range and sends stay independent.
Swap two layers instantly - sound and controls exchange positions. Reorganize your patch layout without recreating anything from scratch.
Initialize a single layer to a clean Custom Algorithm state with standard pitch bend (2 semitones) - without affecting other layers or the preset name. Full per-layer FX and sequencer reset on Layer 1.
Your sound design doesn't exist in a vacuum. Share your creations with the world and discover sounds from other FAAS Hybrid users - all from inside the plugin.
Filter by category, sort by popularity or rating, search by name. Find the perfect starting point in a growing library of community-contributed presets.
