FM Synthesis

Classic frequency modulation with sine oscillators. From glassy electric pianos to harsh metallic textures. The foundation of the DX legacy, reimagined.

Wavetable

36 bandlimited waveforms including 12 instrument-specific shapes (Brass, Strings, Clarinet, Cello, E-Piano Tine, Vocal, Supersaw...) with smooth morphing. Import your own wavetables too.

Noise

Filtered noise generator with white, pink, and colored noise types. Essential for percussive attacks, breath textures, and atmospheric layers.

Filter

State-variable filter with lowpass, highpass, bandpass, and notch modes. Keyboard tracking and resonance for classic subtractive tones.

Waveshaper

Nonlinear distortion with multiple shaping curves. Add harmonics, warmth, or destruction to any signal passing through.

Ring Modulation

Multiply incoming audio with a local oscillator for inharmonic, bell-like tones and aggressive metallic textures.

Physical String

Karplus-Strong waveguide with 8 sub-types: Plucked, Steel, Nylon, Piano, Bowed, Sitar, Clavinet, Dulcimer. STK-based bow friction model and fractional-delay tuning for realistic stringed instruments.

Modal Resonator

8 parallel bandpass resonators tuned to measured mode ratios for 8 sub-types: Marimba, Vibraphone, Tubular Bell, Glockenspiel, Wood Block, Drum, Glass, Metal. Pure mallet/bell physics.

Wind / Tube

STK-derived self-exciting waveguide with 8 sub-types: Clarinet, Flute, Trumpet, Saxophone, Oboe, Organ, Didgeridoo, Pan Flute. Each instrument has its own breath formula, reed/jet/lip excitation, and per-sub-type envelope shape that auto-updates as you change waveform.

Real Wind Instruments. Real Physics.

The Wind engine is a port of the Stanford CCRMA STK waveguide models (Perry Cook & Gary Scavone) directly into FAAS Hybrid. Spectrally validated against STK reference output.

Clarinet (STK exact)

Single-delay closed-pipe waveguide with reed table nonlinearity. Spectrally matches STK Clarinet within 1.6 dB across 16 harmonics. Velocity-scaled output and built-in vibrato per STK defaults.

Flute (STK exact)

Jet excitation with cubic nonlinearity, OnePole bore filter, DC blocker, and the classic "overblow" trick (delay tuned for the third mode). Spectrally matches STK Flute within 6.7 dB.

Saxophone (Saxofony)

Dual-delay conical bore approximation with the reed sitting at the blow position. The output is the pressure at the reed, not the bell, just like STK Saxofony. Spectrally matches within 6.4 dB.

Brass (Trumpet, Didgeridoo)

STK Brass exact in the 400-1500 Hz sweet spot: allpass interpolating delay, BiQuad lip filter (radius 0.997), DC blocker. An internal CC2 LipTension sweep simulates the continuous breath controller STK Brass needs to self-oscillate. Outside the sweet spot a clarinet-style reed proxy keeps the instrument audible at every MIDI note.

Oboe / Pan Flute / Organ

Reed (oboe), jet (pan flute, organ pipe) variants with their own bore length, breath formula, and timbre. Real organ pipes are flue/jet instruments, so the Organ engine uses the Flute model with a softer breath profile.

Expressive Defaults

Wind algorithms ship with a default expression mapping: Pitch Bend → pitch, Breath (CC2) → amplitude AND embouchure, Mod Wheel → vibrato. Plug a breath controller into your DAW and play with natural lip articulation right out of the box.

Morph between complex wavetable shapes in real-time with a live 3D visualization that breathes with the sound. Assign morphing to any mod source - velocity, aftertouch, mod wheel, LFO, sequencer lanes, or even noise - and watch the waveform transform as you play.

Dual Tube Stages

Separate preamp and power amp tube selection - mix and match any combination. 12AX7 into EL34 for Marshall crunch. 6SN7 into 300B for audiophile warmth. Each stage uses ADAA (Antiderivative Anti-Aliasing) with triode or pentode transfer functions. Optional 2x HQ oversampling for pristine high-drive sounds.

Real Amp Behavior

Negative Feedback - Fender-clean (high NFB) to Marshall-raw (low NFB).
Power Supply Sag - B+ voltage drops under heavy signal, creating the "breathing" compression of vintage amps.
Output Transformer - Symmetric saturation with LF resonance, calibrated per tube type.
Bias Shift - Per-stage cathode cap compression for natural dynamics.

10 valve models: 12AX7, 12AT7, 12AU7, 6L6, EL34, EL84, 6V6, KT88, 300B, 6SN7. Positioned post-mix, pre-effects - just like a real tube preamp. A visual vacuum tube glows as you turn up the drive.
